Insomnia: Med-Tech Hackathon at Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune

Medical Innovation Creativity and Entrepreneurship (M.I.C.E) Labs are meant for establishing a connection between the Medical Fraternity, Engineering, and Design Industries to fulfill and meet the demands of various gaps in the healthcare industry. M.I.C.E Labs enables young medical, design, and engineering students to think creatively in order to bring out-of-the-box solutions for making healthcare smarter, better, and affordable according to the Indian Market.

So to take this vision to the next level we conduct Medical Hackathons wherein the students of Medicine, Engineering, Design, and Management come together to work and generate feasible solutions for unmet clinical needs and to promote an innovation culture among all. Here are the details of one such event that we conducted at Armed Forces Medical College, a premier medical institute situated in Pune at their annual fest Illuminati 2022. The institute is presently affiliated with the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences and is recognized by the MCI for conducting undergraduate and various postgraduate medical courses.

About the event: The perfect amalgamation of technology, medicine, and design. Undergraduate students from these areas of expertise come together in multi-disciplinary teams to brainstorm and compete against each other in a limited time frame to come up with the best possible solutions to the most perplexing problems in healthcare and that’s where the name of the event suits- INSOMNIA!

Our Role: A full-day workshop on Design thinking by Medical Innovation Creativity and Entrepreneurship (M.I.C.E) Labs. The workshop covered broad areas from the start of ideation to the final pitch. Choosing the correct problem statement, building a good proof of concept, ideation, and pitch presentation are the skills to be gained through this workshop. Mentorship on day 2 with regard to various aspects of solution building was provided to the participants which helped them work in diversity. And for the final pitch day, the candidates were groomed to present their work in front of panelists belonging to various domains.
